photoshoot 8

 Model: Charlotte Colley

Look 2

Makeup: Light Makeup, nude lip
Wardrobe: Black turtle neck and brown mini skirt

feedback:
In some shots I wasn't too observant of what was in the shot, the end of the backdrop or ring light, light cables, so I had to direct the ring light holder to hold the ring light in one specific spot and angle ad it cleared my shots and kept the lighting consistent

Look 1

Makeup: Light Makeup, red lip
Wardrobe: Black turtle neck tweed checked coat, black trousers

Feedback:
I didn't have the camera on Sportsmode for this outfit and realised half way through so the effect was half of my pictures being stuck in between poses and not focussed so I changed the setting for the rest of the shoot and saw instant improvement

Look 3

Makeup: Light Makeup, red lip
Wardrobe: Black diamanté detail dress and black heels

photoshoot 7

Cover mockup

 Another image I might use.

I will reshoot my cover photoshoot with this model with a different outfit with the Marilyn theme again.

Outfit Planners - Styling Culture Research

A recent trend on social media has been intsagram pages dedicated to outfit planning creating these broken down outfits with tops, bottoms, shoes and accessories nd add ons from hats to the type of hair and little details on nail sets to be worn to match.

 EXAMPLES:

I will be reflecting the zeitgeist by adding this into my website.

Outfit planners are a current trend on instagram on stylists' instagram pages dedicated with styling, as they are targeted to young women the items of the main outfit tends to be affordable pieces from companies like PLT Bohoo SHEIN, fashion ova etc for the general public whilst encorporating some luxury items like designer jewellery, bags or jackets.

Other pages, who target more upscale women who can afford things like Palm angels tops and Alexandra McQueen jeans, have outfits that are designer from head to toe like this:

I will make an outfit plan for an outfit made by Poise's outfit generator, linking to my 30 second styling video

In the video I will make an intertextual reference to clueless' outfit generator in the thumbnail

This outfit plan will be sponsored by Pretty little Thing a current popular brand amongst my target audience. My target audience of 16-25 year old aspirational audience. I've chosen PLT because they're trendy and meet the needs of my audience as PLT's target market aligns with my target audience

This is the information I've gathered from an article called "Pretty Little Thing - A critical evaluation of digital marketing:

Pretty Little Thing is a women's retailer that has the target market of young female women aged between 18 and 28. They offer clothing that is on-trend, yet affordable, and often have celebrity endorsements from the likes of the Kardashians and supermodels, such as Hailey Baldwin.

Fashion network.com states in an article:

PLT is targeted to young women aged 16 to 24, and has a catalogue of 20,000 items, from apparel to footwear and accessories. The products are directly inspired by catwalk shows, and by the wardrobes of international celebrities and influencers. The latter have become the label’s main brand ambassadors, with no fewer than 8,000 collaborations featured in 2019, generating 9.5 billion social media hits. PLT’s fashion is colourful and flamboyant, and the label’s chief concern is to make the products extremely affordable for its customers.

I plan to add pretty little thing's logo to my outfit plans and will achieve this by using the Coolvetica font which closely resembles this

as shown above I have written the company name myself in photoshop resembling the logo recognisable to my target audience

I've abbreviated the name to PLT which means Pretty little thing and due to my audience's cultural competence they will be able to decode this meaning.

Mockups

Front page mockup:

I added my coverlines from my first mockup and just changed the image

I've started the first draft of my Contents page. I've tried out different fonts with the same text. My favourite fonts are Contents Page and Abena. I think Abena is more suitable because it matches my Masthead's font so this creates a sense of brand identity and establishes a consistent house style.

I added an image on half my contents page on a few layers to be able to see different versions of my conentapage by playing with the visibility of the layers

I made 3 squares which will act as a guide while a write text in 3 column each A4 side, then I added images including oe of the cover star's new brand deal.

I then looked for fonts to use for my copy and the numbers I'll use to number the articles and reference pages

Hiro Misake

Badly Stamped

Type Keys

My favourites are Hero Mistake and Badly stamped and Ill try them out on photoshop to see what they're like

I Think this font isn't suitable or sophisticated enough for my brand. I like the look of the 4 of my front
cover so I will try out the numbers in Abenda

I printed my page out in A3 and found the text to be too big. So I sized down to 9pt from 11pt for my copy and the article titles to 12 pt and the numbers to 36 pt

I decided to add an image of food as this is a lifestyle magazine and I have to cover a range of themes and genres. I have removed the picture of the model with pride makeup and have decided to write in my contents page a call for action directing the audience to send in their pride looks so they can feature on the website then I will add the picture onto the website as if a reader made it onto the website.

I've decided to add a cover letter to set the tone of the magazines first edition and to establish some brand identity

My first draft of my cover letter is here and as you can tell its too long so I will refine it into a more precise version

Articles:
The articles range from Beauty: Perfect Lip to Fashion: Beachside drip to Entertainment: with the GOT articles and Marvel, Food: Sushi Mania, Environment: Greenest Jeans Politics: Ukraine and US abortion laws
Reflects the zeitgeist: Social media and the theme of viral content in: The perfect lip.
Intertextual references the target audience's cultural competence would allow them to decode: Rags to riches, Dracarys
Representing different social groups: Black female model on contents page
Fulfills the brief "The feature article or extract should expand upon one of the cover lines on the front cover" -    Tape ins on the cover and fake it til you tape it - War, Devastation cover line, article on contents page on Ukrainian civilians
Brief: "It is important that learners research double page spreads and are aware of how they use elements of media language and construct representations." - I have my title of the page at the top left and 3 columns on each A4 page

This is my contents page without the boxes and I think the margins look good

I plan to add an e-signature at the bottom of my Editor's letter and a picture above so this coming week I need to work on shortening my editors letter and figuring out how to get an e signature onto my PC
I also need to add a streamline barcode edition date etc to my front cover. I need to reshoot more footage this week for my first front cover

I added a picture of my Editor and shortened my editors letter and drew a few signatures. I magic rubbed the background and stretched it out and added it under the editor's letter

I've started on my website and have used a six template

I decided to change the font of the masthead to match my magazine covers' font to "establish the sub-genre and house style of the magazine." as instructed by the brief. I may change the articles picture depending on if I keep it on the contents page or not.

I added icons which act as links of social media platforms at the bottom of the homepage and menu page to demonstrate cross-media convergence

I'm making a styling video for my 30 second audio visual. And this is an outfit plan that matches the outfit from the will

My clip has intertextual reference to clueless' outfit generator. I will either edit a picture with the outfit maker on the thumbnail or incorporate it into the actual video depending on my editing capabilities. My brand will have a partnership with Pretty Little Thing so I've added "Sponsored By" in the corner and Pretty little thing in the coolvetica font to resemble the logo, which is recognisable and popular amongst my target audience, and I've also added clothing items labelled as PLT clothing and referenced their names to promote the brand.

I have added Poise X StyledbySharae to the top of the page to display the magazines partnership with the fictional stylist Sharae mentioned in my contents page.

For the hair section in the top corner I will add a picture of a black model to fulfil representation of different social groups.

Brand Identity

The name of my magazine is Poise as the name would attract this audience as it connotes confidence, grace and style which the aspirational audience would be drawn to as they seek status. I want my masthead to connote this grace and style. These are a few magazines that I aim to mirror the way fonts connote grace and style:

So I started looking on dafont.com for fonts like this and screens hotted the ones I like to start narrowing it down

My top 6 fonts are:
Quaker, Artisan Deco, Abenda, Athena, Official and South Amsterdam

I like Quaker because the O has a unique look however I think this might be too thick and bulky. I also like the look of South Amsterdam, how simple and chic it is however I think it might be too thin and will look overwhelmed or washed out after being stretched out on a cover.

My top 3 fonts are:
Artisan Deco, Abenda, Official and Athena

I'm going to make mock ups of magazine covers to visualise which font best suits my brand. Here I've used a picture from one of my photoshoots for my mock up, I am yet to decide which one will be my cover picture

Athena:
I really like the sleek look of Athena and how well it complements the cover. I like the style of the O and how the letters go slim at certain points, I think it connotes elegance.

Official:
I like the simplicity of this font however I think its too plain so will not be using it.

Artisan Deco:
I like the look of this font however I think its too thick when stretched across the length of the cover's top section and doesn't suit my brand, so I will not be using it

Agenda:
I really like the sleek look of Abenda and how well it complements the cover. I think it's quite similar to Athena how the letters go slim at certain points, I think it connotes elegance.

My top choices are Athena and Abenda. Because they're s similar I think I'll make the definite decision on my cover with the chosen picture so I can fairly judge if it suits the cover and style.

fonts for cover letter

vogue:

edition:

I tried out the different fonts by writing out the cover lines

Abena is the Masthead's font
Brittany Signature for the cover star's name
Vogue for the red lines
Kalivo for the black text apart from capitalised text in Vogue

This is my first cover mock-up but I've decided to se a different picture because it may seem too similar to another students' cover image

Final Statement of Intent
